If you’re looking for an excuse for a cheeky knock off beverage but are on the hunt for something new- look no further than right here in your home town. Brisbane is choc-a-block full of craft breweries so we’ve created a short list of SIX of Brisbane’s best beers to make things easier for you!
1. Liquidamber- Newstead Brewing Company
Newstead Brewing Company are a Brisbane institution and with more than 15 classic beers to their name, you’re sure to have your hands full. Embrace the cold snap with their Liquidamber Amber Ale. With six malts, three hops and trillions of ale yeasts, Liquidamber is a sweet, sweet treat. This ‘passive aggressive redhead’ boasts noble-style hops and spice and is roasted to perfection with specialty malts that drive flavour depth. Even better- you’ll find no chemicals or preservatives in any of their beers, so make like a Queenslander: crack a cold one, sit back and relax.
2. Dark Ale- White Rabbit
If you’re in the mood for something a little dark and stormy, White Rabbit’s Dark Ale is a no brainer. Perfectly toeing the line of a rich and flavoursome taste but with a refreshing finish, this malt driven baby is here to play. It’s wide range of roasted malts and hops come from all around the world and straight to your local, right here is Brisbane. This combination of ingredients results in sweet caramel and toffee notes that will linger long after. Fun fact- Dark Ale is created in open tanks, letting the yeast run wild!
3. Windjammer– Green Beacon Brewing Co
Our list wouldn’t be complete without an IPA, and from Green Beacon Brewing Co. no less! Their Windjammer is a deep golden copper, and tastes like victory. This delightful dry hopped ale is a standout with it’s firm bitterness and spicy citrus aroma. Let the combination of subtly sweet malt flavours, aromas of fresh lychee, candied orange, pine needles and dried mango take you away to somewhere warmer. Pair it with subtle foods to let this baby take it’s rightful place: centre stage.
4. Twisted Palm- Burleigh Brewing Co
Okay so not technically a Brissie beer… but it would feel plain wrong not to mention the dream team of Burleigh Brewing Co on this list. Their Tropical Pale Ale Twisted Palm will take you where the sun in shining, the waves are rolling and nobody’s going anywhere fast (except for on a board). This laid-back brew is relaxed and uncomplicated. The unique hopping regime delivers tropical aromas and characters of orange, mango, pineapple and papaya- all blending comfortably together. Perfect for when you’re sitting on the beach in Burleigh or just wish you were.
5. The Great Barrier Beer– The Good Beer Co
The Great Barrier Beer by Good Beer Co is a tasty beer with a higher purpose and a guilt-free conscience. With 50 percent of profits and a percentage of every keg and carton sold going to charity parters, you can feel even better about cracking a cold one (or six). It’s a bright, golden beer with a pale malt aroma and a hint of tropical fruit. It’s mild, lightly dry but sweet finish will have you refreshed even after the toughest of days. Brewed just around the corner from the Great Barrier Reef in Bundaberg, it’s an easy drinking, quality craft beer with an environmentally friendly edge and has our tick of approval.
6. Pacer 2.8- Fortitude Brewing Co
Think snags on a barbie, a bad t-shirt tan and Vegemite on toast- this lager is as Australian as it gets. This bad boy is packed with a whole lotta flavour but is still cold, crisp and goes down a treat. A vibrant yellow with a fluffy white head, the Fortitude Standard is a single hop Citra light pale ale mixed with sugar, spice and everything nice. Not only that, it will quench your thirst and allow you to soldier on with your day afterwards.
